Research and Information on Low Voltage Light Bulbs

Why shop now for low voltage light bulbs?

Perhaps you've come across the term a few times, perhaps you know what you are looking for and why. Regardless of what brought you here, we would like to stress the importance of choice and it's impact on the environment and your bills.

What are low voltage light bulbs?

Electricity comes to light fixtures at 110 or 120 Volts in the typical home line. How much Volts you use equals the amount of energy your lights consume. Low Voltage Light Bulbs are brilliant in the sense that they employ a step-down transformer to lower 120 volts down to approximately 12 volts, which is a MERE TENTH of the original voltage!

Where can you apply this type of lighting?

In the Kitchen, track lighting is a good choice. In the Home office it is ideal as well. My personal favorite place to use is in the dining room in the form of track lighting. I recommend you look into MR16 bulbs. You can get them in different shapes and colors. Finally they also make for great bathroom vanity light bulbs.

My own story

I am 29 years old and bought my first home this year. One of the first thing I've done is replace all the light bulbs in my house to be more eco-friendly. In some cases, the wife can't deal with the (ugly) shapes of some energy saving bulbs, and so for light bulbs that are not covered I shop for low voltage light bulbs instead. My energy bills are quite low now. You should also shop around for the best energy rates with renewable energy sources. I now save a lot of money compared to my old home, which was 2000 square feet smaller!

Where to buy?

I know it's only my personal opinion, but I buy as much online as possible. I know there's still those out there that doubt if it's safe, but just use reputable sites who pay for advertising / marketing, or established websites. I do save a lot of time since I have the chance to compare dozens of stores instead of just accepting the price at my local Home Depot store. Shop around, you will be happy for the money saved - I know I am.
